Wildlife SIG - Sat 5/20 @6:00AM - Denver City Park Heronry
The Wildlife SIG outing for May will be on Saturday, May 20. The destination will be City Park in Denver. There are two ponds in City Park. The larger pond has a small island that has a rookery for Egrets, Black-crowned Night Herons and Double Crested Cormorants. The small pond is almost exclusively the Cormorants. While lens of 400mm and larger will allow for some nice close up shots shorter lenses like a 200mm are fine especially for the small island as it is but a short distance from where you shoot. This is an early morning shoot. The Egrets being white get difficult to photograph as the sun rises in the sky. If the sky is clear, I am generally done shooting them by 9:30. Shooting can go later at the Cormorant only location. It is about an hour drive to City Park. Lets meet for car pooling at the Harmony Road Transportation Center (northeast corner) at 6:00 a.m. So no one gets left behind, let me know if you will be participating. Guy

Organized by Ed Ogle. We will attempt to hike to Chasm Falls and if that isn’t possible, we will tour the Alluvial Fan area (or maybe do both).

It’s time for the Spring run-off so the water features in the park should be spectacular.
Meeting time 8:00 AM at JAX Outdoor Gear located at 2665 W Eisenhower Blvd, Loveland, CO near the South East corner of the parking lot. NOTE: There are two JAX stores in Loveland, this is the West Side store.
Let’s plan to return to the Jax parking lot by 3:00pm. Carpooling is encouraged. Very Important: Bring a light weight warm layer, rain gear, sunscreen, snacks and water. Follow the links above and read the official Park Service descriptions of these places and make sure you are up for this.
