Lumpy Ridge Photo Hike
When: Thursday 5/1/2025
Meeting time: 8:00 AM at JAX Outdoor Gear located at 2665 W Eisenhower Blvd, Loveland, CO near the South East corner of the parking lot.
Note: This trip will be subject to postponement in the event of bad weather.
The Plan: We will hike West from the Gem Lake Parking lot trailhead along the Black Canyon Trail toward MacGregor Falls. Based on everyone’s desires and abilities we might make it all the way to the waterfalls but this is only an option. The round-trip distance to the waterfalls is 6.3 miles. Here is a description of the hike to the waterfalls: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/colorado/macgregor-falls-trail
I have done this hike many times during all seasons of the year and it is just gorgeous.
Along the way we will be passing below the rocks and cliffs of Lumpy Ridge. This area is an excellent area for birding, wildlife and wildflowers. It is also a major area for rock climbing activity and we might see some of that a well.
Equipment: I plan to bring a telephoto lens and a macro lens. I don’t plan to bring a tripod.
For hiking gear, be sure to bring sunscreen and plenty of water. It will be tick season so don’t wear shorts.
Lunch: Let’s plan to have lunch along the trail rather than going into town for lunch which will give us a chance to rest and allow us to be out longer.
RSVP: Please let Ed know if you plan to attend: edogle@gmail.com

The FCDCC Fine Art SIG has regular short local outings where we practice learning to see beautiful or interesting objects, take pictures, go out to lunch, and then we have a short ZOOM meeting about a week later to show 1 image or more from the outing (with constructive critiques). I think this could be a very good way to improve our photography skills.
o Let's meet at Liberty Park on 1st St (Hwy 14) in Ault, CO at 10am on Sunday 5/18.
o Do not leave anything valuable or that looks valuable in your car.
o Possible items of interest are: Liberty Park, Caboose Park, Pawnee Pioneer Trails Scenic Byway: Ault Entrance, Cemetery... If you have any more ideas, please email them to me.
o Let's plan to walk around until about 12pm, then go out to lunch.
o I will arrange a ZOOM meeting for about 1 week later, to give us time to process a few images. We will all show up to 5 images if there is time, and hold constructive critiques (give and receive helpful positive comments).
Please contact me, Mike Barry, if you have any questions.
You don't have to tell me that you will be attending the outing, just show up on time.
