#1 - FCDCC September club outing to Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster

Exhibits: butterflies, insects, spiders, octopus Butterfly Encounter at 12:30pm - release newly emerged butterflies
Tickets Adult: $14.95 Senior (65+): $12.95 timed entry is not enforced now (although the website says that it is)
The Butterfly Pavilion has exhibits for butterflies, insects, spiders and octopus... There are plenty of things to take pictures of. Since some members may be done taking pictures in an hour, and some may want to take pictures for 3 or 4 hours, let's all go individually, although you should carpool if possible. They open at 9am and I want to meet in the parking lot at 1pm to drive to Gunther Toody's restaurant for lunch. Sometimes the Butteryfly Pavilion has problems with large groups, their current website doesn't mention it, but they used to charge an additional fee for large groups in addition to the entrance fee. If we arrive in smaller groups it shouldn't be a problem. Monopods are OK, but tripods are not OK. Flash is allowed in the butterfly room, but not the octopus room

PS There is a possibility that Covid and the flu will cause venues to shut down or enforce masking requirements as we enter Fall and Winter so I am encouraging our club to go on more club outings while we have the opportunity to socialize. It may be a long cold winter...
#2 - Fall Color and Elk Rut to RMNP
Venue: RMNP
Date: Tuesday 9/26/2023
Carpool: Let's meet a little before 8:00AM meet at Mike Barry's house (2943 Redburn Drive, Fort Collins) to carpool to RMNP; carpool leaves at 8:00AM; RMNP at 9:30AM (about 1.5 hr drive);
Lunch: bring a bag lunch and something to drink
Time: 12pm meet at the West Alluvial Fan Trailhead on Fall River Road
Mid-September to Early-October is usually the best time to see fall color in RMNP, and it is also a good time to see and hear the elk rut. It will take about 1.5 hrs to get to the Beaver Meadows entrance to RMNP, and we need to get through the entrance before 9:00am when they start checking for timed entry reservations, so let's carpool and leave the Harmony Park and Ride at 7:00am. We can spend 2-3 hours driving Trail Ridge Rd looking for fall color. Hidden Valley, Lake Irene Picnic Area, and the Fairview Curve area have been recommended for fall color. We plan to stop for a picnic lunch at the West Alluvial Fan Trailhead picnic area, which is a good place for birds and aspen and sometimes moose and elk. After lunch we can drive around Horseshoe Park and Old Fall River Rd looking for elk. We will probably want to head for home about 3:00pm, and return to the Harmony Park and Ride about 4:30pm.
#3 - Vintage Automobiles at the Cussler Museum in Arvada

Hours: 1st Saturday of each month, and every Thursday and Friday 10:30am - 4:30pm - closes 9/29 for the season

Carpool: Meet at Harmony Park and Ride at 8:30am to carpool to Cussler Museum (1.5 hour drive)
Lunch: Restaurant in Arvada
Time: 12pm
The Cussler Museum has an extensive collection of over 100 significant automobiles, ranging in years from 1906 to 1965, was started by renowned best-selling author Clive Cussler. I don't know much about the museum, but it was recommended at our last club meeting. We need to visit ASAP since it is closing for the season on 9/29. Let's meet at the Harmony Park and Ride before 8:30am, so we can leave at 8:30am. It will take about 1.5 hours to drive to the museum. We can spend the morning taking pictures of the vintage automobiles, then break for lunch about 12pm and find a local restaurant. We will probably leave for Fort Collins about 1:30pm and be back at the Harmony Park and Ride around 3:00pm.
