Wildlife SIG Outing - 5/21 - City Park, Denver - Nesting Herons and Egrets
The subject is the rookery on the island in the small lake there. The birds nesting on the island include primarily; Double-crested Cormorants, Snowy Egrets and Black-crowned Night Herons. There are occasionally also; Great Egrets and Cattle Egrets. At one point the island is only about 25 yards away from where one can take pictures so a really long lens is not needed though it would allow for some nice close up shots. This is a good opportunity to practice birds in flight shots as many will be going back and forth to the island with nest building materials. For carpooling, we will be meeting at the Harmony Transportation center at the NE corner at 6:00 a.m. There will be a quick stop at the park and ride in Loveland for possible additional people. If it is sunny, we will likely be done shooting by 9:00 / 9:15 as once the sun gets too high, the birds, especially the white Egrets get washed out. As always, please let me know if you will be participating so we don't leave anyone at the Harmony parking lot.
