2020-12-15 Fine Art Photography SIG meeting notes

We met online using ZOOM 6:00pm-8:00pm

The goal of our Fine Art Photography SIG is to help each other to create fine art from our photography.

Attendees
Mike Barry
Mike Dunnets
Rich Ernst
Dave Fahrney
Jim Limburg
Paul Marcoux
Ed Ogle
Albert Wang
Ann Yang

Fine Art Photography SIG - New Name
We decided to change the name from Conceptual SIG to Fine Art Photography SIG because we have changed the focus of the SIG and want a name that more clearly describes the new focus.

We discussed frequency compensation
Mike explained basic frequency compensation, and Rich showed several plugins that make freqency compensation easier and use similar techniques for sharpening, PPW, WOW Frequency Equalizer Pro 2 Panel, and the Configurator Reloaded tool. Rich also explained how frequency separation is used by the Photoshop unsharp function to sharpen images.

We decided that the topic for the next meeting will be Compositing
We will be concentrating on incorporating images into abstract backgrounds.

Research "Compositing"
Everyone has the homework assignment to research "Compositing", study it and bring back some information for the group to discuss at our next Fine Art Photography SIG meeting.
If you find some good Compositing information online, tell me where it is and I will put a link to the information on our website.

Resources page
Remember to check the Resources page of our club website for Compositing information. https://fcdcc.com/resources.php

SIG Project
Everyone has a second homework assignment which is to send Mike Barry an image in RAW format soon. Mike will choose one of the images, send it out to the SIG members, and everyone will create their own interpretation of the image to show at the January meeting. The idea is to show how all the members would process the same image in different styles.

Constructive Critique
We spent about 2 hours critiquing a few images from each SIG member. I found the exercise quite helpful and we will continue the critiques at future meetings.

Agenda for our next Fine Art Photography SIG meeting 1/19/2020 at 6:00pm
1. The main topic will be "Compositing"
Please research on your own so we can all discuss it at the meeting (optional)
2. We will discuss our interpretations of the SIG Project image
Please, everyone send Mike Barry a RAW image file that we can use for the SIG Project.
3. We will hold constructive critiques (optional)
Pick as many as 3 images that you would like critiqued, and be prepared to show them by sharing your screen during the ZOOM meeting.
4. We will pick a topic for the next meeting

If you don't have time to research the topic, or you don't have any images that you want to have critiqued, that is OK, you can just attend the meeting and participate when you want.

Jim Limburg will send out the Meeting ID, passcode, and meeting link when we have scheduled the meeting, which will be about a week before the meeting date.

Email Mike, info@fcdcc.com, when you find mistakes, missing information or if you have suggestions for the Fine Art Photography SIG and I will try to address the issues.
