2011-04-12 FCDCC Meeting Notes

The April outing has been cancelled. We hope to reschedule the model shoot for a later date.

The Informal outing for April will be Saturday 4/16 to see Tom Mangelson at his Cherry Creek gallery (255 Clayton St. Cherry Creek North, Denver, CO) Saturday 4/16 6-9pm. Tom on Facebook If you are interested in attending the artist reception, contact Dawn, you might want to carpool.

There are a few options for photography to replace the model shoot for this weekend:
Pow Wow at the Equine Center - 4/16 9:30am-8pm, 4/17 10am-8pm
Kite Festival at Spring Canyon Community Park - 4/25 10am-4pm

We welcomed one new member, Cyndee Meese, at the meeting.

Bob discussed the exhibition at "The Full Throttle Coffee House". We will discuss the exhibition at our next informal meeting, Thursday 4/14, at The Full Throttle Coffee House, above Boomer Music, 3761 South Mason (about 1/2 block south of Horsetooth on Mason). Bob is creating business cards to be placed on or adjacent to your pictures. They will include the FCDCC logo, website, photographer, title and price. We plan to meet at the coffee house to hang the pictures on 4/30. The Show will start 5/1 and run for either 30 days or 90 days. The coffee shop is interested in music related photos if possible, but they were happy with our portfolio, so most anything will probably be OK. You can get picture frames at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Aarons and several other art stores in town. Carol showed an example of a nice double mat with a foam core back that she has used in shows before, and our club decided that we don't all have to use the same frames. It would be nice if each person can match their frames, but not neccessary. If you don't want to invest in frames, then a nice mat job will work fine. Add and Dawn are going to write a press release and submit it to the Coloradoan and Beet Street. It was also suggested that we advertise the show at the library, galleries in town, Craig's list, and the Photoshop. Interested members should assemble 2-3 pictures for the show.

The next FCDCC outing will be the Utah trip 5/19-5/22. We will be camping in the Moab area on BLM land. We will arrange lodging and locations upon arrival in Moab. The weather may be windy or rainy or hot or cold, so members suggested bringing some type of protection for your cameras. Gallon size ziplock bags seem to be popular. About 10-12 members expressed an interest in the trip.

Dawn is going to start adding a few shorter trips on weekdays after work to our schedule.
Monday, May 16, 6 – 8 p.m. - Pelican watch at Pelican Lake, Windsor map
If this lake is a bust, we could head to St. Vrain State Park in Longmont, Arapahoe Bend Natural Area, Prospect Ponds Natural Area or ponds near Ziegler and Drake Roads

The library has asked our club to do another public presentation, and our group has agreed to do it. We are looking for more volunteers. The presentation will be 7/20 at 7pm at the Harmony library, topic will be "Novel Destinations". They want a presentation about travel photography which will be part of the library's summer reading program.
- Guy, Ken, Bob, Rich and Anne have offered to help
- Potential topics

  • How to save your travel photos
  • How to enhance your vacation pictures
  • What equipment to bring and what to leave at home
  • How to travel with your equipment
  • Keeping your photography equipment from the T.S.A.
  • Know your location (Dawn)
  • Titles of good travel books
  • Good portable devices for travel (download, backup, saving your photos and your back)

We decided to start inviting non-members to our outings. If it doesn't work out we can just quit inviting them.

Is someone in contact with the Bohemian Foundation to arrange press passes for the New West Fest this year?

Several members modified Cecil Hellyer's fix-it picture of the Sand Dunes.

There is another heronry (like a rookery, but for herons) at the northeast corner of Arapahoe Bends. It is visible from I25, but you might be able to see it from the path through the natural area. I just found another heronry west of I25, between Harmony and Kechter.

Please email me information and a headshot for your entry on the membership page. Some of the member's pictures need to be updated.

Please email me any additions or corrections to the meeting notes so I can keep everyone updated with the most accurate information.
