2011-02-09 FCDCC Meeting Notes
The February outing will be Saturday 2/12 from 9am to 3pm at CSU. We will be shooting macro/tabletop pictures in Room 316 of the Natural Resources building. Bring 3 small objects to photograph, camera, macro lens (if you have one, but not necessary), extension tubes (if you have them), flashes, extension cords, batteries, tripods, reflectors and small backdrops (cloth or paper).
We had 1 guest attend the meeting: Matt Durand. Please excuse my spelling, I made my best guess.
The "Library Beginner Digital Photo Workshop" will be Saturday 2/19 from 10am-12noon at the Harmony library (intersection of Harmony & Shields). Ken, Rich and Ann will be speaking at the workshop, but Bob would like to see as many club members there as possible to help with the hands-on part of the workshop.
Annual dues are now due for 2011, $20/single or $30/couple for 2011. Please pay our treasurer, Rich Ernst, at the next meeting you attend.
Bob is collecting photos for the club portfolio. He would like up to two 8"x10" prints from each member. Our plan is to show the club portfolio to local businesses when we ask for wall space to display photographs. We expect the businesses to be more interested in our photography if they see something they like in the portfolio.
Mike discussed the status of our club website, FCDCC.com. We are redesigning our website to make it simpler and easier to use. Please look it over and send me comments and suggestions. We are going to use external galleries like Picasa and Flickr instead of galleries hosted on our website. Many of our members are already using external galleries and find them easier to use than our old gallery, they get more exposure, and they require less time for our webmaster to manage. Send me the URL of any galleries that you want added to our Photo Galleries page. We will be adding 1 picture per member to the gallery on our website, these pictures are randomly displayed on the Home page, so send me a picture for the website.
Dawn is organizing the March outing to the Sandhill Crane Migration now. Dawn has made reservations at the Microtel Inn for two nights, and sunrise blind reservations for the Rowe Sanctuary, and sunset blind reservations at the Rowe Sanctuary. There are 4 hotel rooms remaining and 6 spots in the blinds remaining. Please confirm your reservations soon as they are filling up, and any open spots will be cancelled some time before the trip so we don't get charged for unused rooms and spots in the blind. For more details...
For the February informal outing, we will meet at Cafe Ardour (255 Linden St. near Jefferson) at 9am on Thursday 2/17. We may visit the Center for Fine Arts Photography to look over the portrait exhibit.
Ken Eis gave a great presentation on "Histogram, Levels & Curves". You can find his notes on the website at: http://www.fcdcc.com/meetings.php
Ken and David discussed adding pictures to FREE galleries at FineArtAmerica.com. You can upload 25 pictures for free, or as many as you want for about $30 per year. The website will offer your pictures for sale, so you might even make some money. David recommended sizing your images so at least one side is 6200px or more the website can sell the largest size version of your images.
The Rocky Mountain Nature Association is offering classes on nature photography.
The Rocky Mountain School of Photography will be offering a local workshop April 9 and 10 for $179, and several members have taken the workshop before and recommend it to others.
The photo subject for next month is macro/tabletop photography.
Next month's meeting will be in the same room: room 316 of the Natural Resources Building on Tuesday 3/8 at 6:30pm. You can always find when and where our next meeting will be: http://www.fcdcc.com/meetings.php
Please email me any additions or corrections to the meeting notes so I can keep everyone updated with the most accurate information.
