Night Photography SIG Outing - Nov 16 @7pm - We'll go to a magnificent barn located in the outskirts of Fort Collins. The barn was built by Joe Sullivan, who is a local builder. I sense he's put lots os sweat and toil into the construction of the barn - it is magnificent! We'll meet for car-pooling at 7 pm at the parking lot of the King Soopers grocery store located at the intersection of Elizabeth and Taft Hill. The meeting place within the parking lot will be in the northeast corner of the lot, near the King Soopers gas station at that site. I have arranged to be at the Sullivan property at 8 pm. Their farm is located just west of Bingham Hill, so it will be a short drive from our meeting location. I'll need to enter a security code at the property gate to let us in, and one is required to exit as well. Once in, there is relatively ample parking, but I'd like to keep the cars to a minimum. I can take three riders comfortably. Once at the barn, we'll do some scouting. I have some ideas for setting up, but we'll share some ideas once you see the barn. There are three horses on the property, so we may be sharing space with them. There is also an apartment loft in the barn with a tenant (a young veterinary student) that we need to be mindful of, particulary with potentially muddy boots! As far as equipment, I recommend the following. A sturdy tripod, a relatively wide-angle lens, cable release, headlamp or small flashlight for woring camera controls. It will be chilly, so warm clothes, including a warm hat, are highly desirable. We'll be in a barnyard, so boots or heavy shoes are recommended. For those of you that have LED panel lights, please bring them. We may not need to use filters on the lights - the wood of the barn may give us a really nice warm color. Also, we won't be trying to incorporate stars into the photos (unless the opportunity presents itself), so our exposures may be relatively short. I anticipate we whould be finished no later than 10 pm. Please let me know if you will be coming, so we can be sure noone is left behind. Thanks, and see you soon.
Wildlife SIG Outing - Sat Nov 10 @6am, What is likely the last wildlife SIG outing for this year will be Saturday, November 10. The outing will be to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge just outside of Denver. The Mule Deer rut should still be going on with opportunities to photograph Mule Deer Bucks with some impressive racks. The past couple of years, there have been frequently visible, two big Mule Deer Bucks with large atypical racks each with around 20 points. I saw one of them in mid-summer with a still developing rack that had a dozen points. Also, there are always the Bison, along with raptors, Whitetail Deer and other less frequently seen Badgers and Black-footed Ferrets. For carpooling purposes, we will again be meeting at the Harmony Road Transportation Center at 6:00 a.m. As always, let me know if you will be attending so we do not leave any late arrivals at the Transportation Center.
Mobile SIG meeting - We can discuss topics left over from previous meetings and also direction for next year, e.g. if someone else wants to pick up leading this SIG otherwise it will be discontinued (though mobile device video photography will be included in the Video SIG.) Agenda for November 27 Mobile Photography SIG: Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8 pm at Judy's house, 8325 Turman Court, FC 80525
1. Members sharing - photos, equipment, apps, etc. that anyone would like to share.
2. Continue discussion of interface between mobile device and DSLR camera.
3. Judy - share apps used to create video of crystal ball of fall colors with rotating discs.
4. Discuss future of this Mobile Photography SIG.
Hope to see you. Please let me know if you plan to attend. Thanks, Judy

CYCLOCROSS: Sat/Sun 11/10-11 This is a bit like motocross on racing bikes. This year the NoCo event is being held at New Belgium Brewery on Sat.-Sun. 10-11. The races are pretty much all day long each day, so plenty of opportunity to shoot. Last year about 1,000 racers at event. More info here: http://www.crossofthenorth.com/racer-infor.html
