2017-03-14 FCDCC Meeting Notes

We met in the Community room of the Coloradoan Newspaper, 1300 Riverside Ave. Fort Collins.

Please welcome Greg, Vishar, Kurt, Mike, Sherry, Phil, Carl and Jo who were visiting our club.

Please pay your dues for 2017 to Rich Ernst at the next meeting if you haven't already paid. You can find him at most meetings. Annual dues are $25/member with $15 for a spouse and $10 for each additional child under 18. Dues are prorated based on the month you join.

Check out the SIGs (Special Interest Groups); they have been holding lots of meetings and going on lots of outings. Participating in a SIG is an excellent way to develop your skills.

Please send your SIG outing schedules to info@fcdcc.com so I can add them to the website.

Send your photograph submittals to Walter Lyons at photoeditor@fcdcc.com. Remember to send in before and after versions of your pictures so we can learn about post processing. Please send in 3 or fewer pictures for the slideshow, and send them by Sunday evening so Walt has time to create the slideshow. We also accept short videos for the slideshow.

April meeting challenge topic: "Green", send your pictures to photoeditor@fcdcc.com

Please send Fix-it-photos to Mike Barry at info@fcdcc.com.

If you don't already have a headshot on the website, please send one to Mike Barry at info@fcdcc.com. I will try to take headshots at the next meeting.

Who is this person? Paul Marcoux was the focus of the "Who is this?" section of our meeting.

Many thanks to Bob and Cindy Maynard for their presentation on "Ancient Skies through Ancient Eyes". Also thanks to Bob Gobeille for his presentation on "Camera Protective Screens".

Just for future reference: We use the projector that The Coloradoan provides during our meetings, and it requires an HDMI connector if you plan to use your own laptop for your presentation. If you don't have an HDMI connector, you can put your presentation in PDF format on a USB memory stick and play it on the laptop that we use for the club information.

Sat 3/18 @5:55am - Rocky Mountain Arsenal - Bison, Deer, Raptors Time seems to have a habit of going by way too fast. Just realized earlier today that the first FCDCC Wildlife SIG Outing is this coming Saturday, March 18. The outing will be down to the Rocky Mtn. Arsenal NWR outside of Denver. The primary target of photographers at RMANWR are the Bison, however there are also Mule and Whitetail Deer, Eagles, Hawks, various waterfowl and if one is very lucky you might see a Black-tailed Ferret. RMA is one of the Ferret reintroduction locations. They were released along the newer 8 mile wildlife drive. There is a large Prairie Dog colony about midway around the new loop on the right side of the road. Since the Prairie Dog is the Ferret's primary diet, that would be a good place to look. For car pooling down to the arsenal, let's meet at the NE corner of the Harmony Rd. Transportation Center at 5:55 am so we can leave at 6:00. Sunrise on Saturday is listed as 7:06 am. The drive there takes a bit less than an hour. As always, so we do not leave anyone behind, let me know if you will be participating. -Guy

Sat 3/18 @7pm - March Club Outing: Light Painting at Benson Sculpture Garden - I'm telling everyone at the meeting Tuesday to meet at 7:00 p.m. If it isn't quite dark yet...good to get bearings. If dark, then good also for light painting. I've got a map to show Tuesday to indicate to meet at the parking area on Aspen Dr on the west side of the gardens. Lots of good sculptures and the building. Other good subjects at SE corner of gardens. Was there the other night checking it out and got decent results even though I've never done it and was only there about 15 minutes. The gardens are open till 10 p.m and there are no internal lights, so flashlights for painting and marking where one walks area definite necessity. - Bob

Sat 6/3 - Wildlife SIG shoot wild horses in Sand Wash Basin (NW Colorado, near Maybelle)

If you plan to go see the Solar Eclipse later this year in Wyoming, you should have reservations for a room by now, and you might want to start organizing car pooling.

Email Mike, info@fcdcc.com, when you find mistakes, missing information or if you have suggestions for the website and I will try to address the issues.
