Meeting Notes for FCDCC Video SIG August 27, 2024
Persons present: Jim Lindberg, Tony Arnerich, Albert Wang, Paul Marcoux, Jack Lipscomb, Rich Ernst, Stephen Smith, Greg Nott, Judy Cannon
Absent: Walt Lyons (out of town)
1. We reviewed and tested how to best play videos on Zoom. Jim Limburg played videos using his power point slide method then used the Zoom Video player for video files directly from his computer. Audio on both methods was fine, but the second method was superior for a smooth video playback. Therefore, it was decided that he would share videos in future FCDCC meetings either before or after his power point slide show and use the Zoom video player for all video files submitted.
2. Paul shared a few of his videos (using the Zoom video player) including an outing to Pawnee National Grasslands, a Macro SIG outing to CSU gardens, and some trail camera videos. Albert tried to share Tony’s Flicker account videos but that didn’t work, so now we know that.
3. Judy discussed and shared how to create a slideshow in Adobe Lightroom Classic. Note that sharing video became very pixelated. Turns out the Back Blaze app was using lots of bandwidth to back up photos. After that app was paused, video sharing using the Zoom video player looked fine.
4. Judy showed a video of some time lapse video from a Utah workshop and briefly discussed the use of LRTimelapse along with Adobe Lightroom Classic to process the video. Note: Camera settings for Milky Way were 13 sec, f/2.8, ISO 5000, 14mm lens; settings for the Northern Lights were 5 sec, f/ 2.8, ISO 3200 14mm lens.
5. Judy showed a video of Yellow-breasted Chat singing and discussed use of a tripod with 800mm lens, variable density neutral filter and remote mic for the sound.
6. We discussed future meetings. Judy will schedule future meetings for October 22 and November 19 for the remainder of this year. Then we’ll decide whether to continue this SIG into 2025 based on interest level. For the October meeting agenda:
a. Greg Nott agreed to give a demonstration of DeVinci Resolve app for video processing.
b. Rich Ernst agreed to demonstrate some accessories he uses for video on his iPhone including a cage.
c. Albert Want would like to try playing video from YouTube via Zoom.
d. As always, anyone is welcome to share videos they have made.
